The British Horse Society

Approval of The British Horse SocietyUltimately the approval of our clients is the most important thing to us. Without you we would have no business. In pursuit of this goal we take a number of stepping stones on the way. The most important of these is approval by the British Horse Society.

This is the most testing level of approval, requiring that we maintain standards of horses, teachers, recording and property to ensures that your riding experience is as safe, enjoyable and informative as it can possibly be.

The BHS inspections come at least once per year, without notice, and they will spot check things like tack, worming records, incident report books etc..

We are also members of the ABRS

'Where to Train' additional inspections

All BHS Approved Riding Establishments listed in 'Where to Ride' are regularly inspected to ensure they meet high standards of safety, horse welfare and tuition.

‘Where to Train’ establishments undergo a more rigorous inspection. This makes sure that their instructors can train students to the standard that the centre is recognised for, and that horses at the centre are trained to a suitable standard for the work required of candidates at that level.

Instructors at ‘Where to Train’ establishments must be registered, and are required to stay up to date with current standards by attending seminars and conferences.

They must also be qualified to the level above that to which the centre is approved to train, for example, a centre approved to train to BHSAI must employ at least one registered BHSII instructor.

For more information please visit the web site of the BHS at www.bhs.org.uk

Hard Hats

British Standards KitemarkHard hats to the specification PAS 015 or standard ASTM F1163 are considered to afford greater protection than the standard EN1384. It is emphasized that hats bearing a QAS (quality assurance symbol) eg. Kite mark, SEI or QAS, are batch tested and therefore of a constant standard. A hat meeting one of the following standards is compulsory, whatever your abilities:

British:- All PAS 015, BSEN1384
European:- All EN1384

If you are unsure of your particular hat then please check with our reception staff before you ride.
